Xilongzhou Island
    Updated:2009-11-29 23:39    BY:

7 kilometers to the east of Wuzhou stands this famous small island against the rapids of the West River. The island looks like a whale fighting against the waves. Legend has it that Xilongzhou was a cage to catch a huge dragon that once lived in the West River long time ago. It is a floating islet too, as it has never been drowned by flood. There goes a story about the floating islet. Thousands of years ago, Wuzhou was drowned by flood every year and the residents suffered a lot, so they burned incense and made vows to the god. Then one day, a god appeared and put a bamboo cage with a pair of ducks in the river. The bamboo cage would never be drowned by flood no matter how high the water rose, thus Wuzhou would not be disturbed by foold any more.
