Wuzhou, covering a total area of 12,600 square kilometers（urban area 1,097.2 square kilometers）is located in the east of Guangxi and is regarded as the eastern gateway of Guangxi, bordering Guangdong province and having a population of 3.1015 millions. Wuzhou administers Wanxiu District, Dieshan District, Changzhou District, Cangwu County, Tengxian County and Mengshan County and is mandated to govern Cenxi (a county-level city). The urban area of Wuzhou is divided into two parts (the east riverbank & the west riverbank) by the Guijiang River.
Wuzhou has a long history. In the year of 200 BC, the place was named Cangwu, one of the prefectures of the Qin Dynasty. In the fourth year of Emperor Wude (621 AD) of the Tang Dynasty, the place acquired its present name. It is said that Wuzhou?first got?its name from the former abundance of Sterculia platanifolia. Its beautiful natural surroundings with green hills and clear waters, a rich collection of cultural relics and pleasantly warm climate make this mountainous city the chosen destination for many travelers all year round. |
